The balance between fuel economy and drive quality is one of the most difficult and important tasks in the Vehicle Development Process. The objective of this event is to assess the vehicle’s drive quality. Assessments will be based on vehicle performance in two different areas: acceleration targets and AVL DRIVE assessment criteria. The main tool that will be used for the second part of the quality assessment is AVL DRIVE. This program provides an objective drive quality measurement system that gives a 1-10 rating on several hundred driving situations, along with detailed physics-based criteria.

Each team’s vehicle will be tested with the vehicle’s accelerator pedal set at fixed pedal positions in both charge depleting & charge sustaining modes. The AVL DRIVE data will be collected and analyzed by GM drive quality engineers. An overall drive quality score will be given based on this objective drive quality data.
